Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Jeffer is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University in 2001. Since graduating, he has worked across the country in small and large hospitals, shelters, and the U.S. Army, where he worked with marine mammals, working dogs, and working horses. After moving to Durham in 2006 and receiving his Master of Business Administration degree from UNC, he knew Durham was the place for him.
Dr. Amy Edwards grew up in Norman, Oklahoma where she attended the University of Oklahoma for her undergraduate degree and Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During that time she participated in research in parasitology and vector-borne diseases. After receiving her veterinary degree, she moved to North Carolina to attend NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine for her internship and advanced training in Internal Medicine before entering into small animal private practice.
Dr. Eric Tam is originally from San Jose, California. He attended Oregon State University for his undergraduate degree and then graduated in 2021 from St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands. He completed his 4th year of clinical training at the University of Minnesota. After completing veterinary school, Dr. Tam moved to Durham to begin his career at Cornwallis Road Animal Hospital. His areas of interest include preventative medicine, dentistry, and surgery.
During his free time, Dr. Tam enjoys playing basketball, snowboarding, cooking, and finding out what the great city of Durham has to offer! He does not currently have any pets in Durham but has a 3-legged cat that lives back home and will be joining him soon.
Dr. Mhoon grew up in Colorado and Florida, but has called Durham her home since 2007. She studied biology at Stetson University and veterinary medicine at the University of Florida, earning her DVM in 2007. While at UF, her interest in integrated medicine sparked and she completed her Certification in Small Animal Acupuncture from Chi University in 2010. Following her patients throughout their life stages and getting to know their families is a highlight to Dr. Mhoon. Her professional interests include geriatrics, neurology, dermatology, and preventative medicine.
After practicing in Raleigh for 16 years, she is thrilled to join our team in Durham. She and her husband have four children. You may see them around town fishing at the Eno, cheering on their kids’ sports teams, or exploring local parks. Her family has two mix breed dogs, a tuxedo kitty, backyard hens, and tropical fish.
Cornwallis Road Animal Hospital provide quick service to soothe my fears about my much-loved dog’s tumor. They went above and beyond in helping me when my car died in their parking lot. Great folks!!
My baby Adjua and I really love this hospital. They take the the time to speak with you about your concerns. Customer Service is outstanding
10/15 was one of the saddest days of my life. I had to put down my 17 year old dog, Chi Chi. He’s been by my side since day one and it was the hardest decision ever. Dr. Jeffer, Ashley, and Casey were so compassionate and they felt my pain. Their kindness and support was needed during this time. I can’t thank them enough.
